Why I Joined GoodReads

If you hadn’t noticed on my site’s sidebar or read my handful of tweets about it, I’ve joined GoodReads. Like LibraryThing, GoodReads is a site where you can share the books you’ve read. Unlike LibraryThing, which has a great deal of focus (or did when it started) on cataloging and on your own collection, GoodReads is more about sharing books and book reviews.

I decided to join because the social aspect was much stronger there and because I had more friends who were on it than friends at LibraryThing. I was able to import the books from my LT collection, but I had to retag & rerate them…which is actually a fun night for me.

My GoodReads account is linked to my Twitter account, but I set it to ask before it tweets anything. It’d be easy to remember I’d read a few dozen books, add them, and send out a few dozen tweets to match. But I will tweet my real reviews, at least reviews I think are worth sharing.

Have I missed friending any of you on there? Just send me a friend request and I’d be happy to friend you. I love comparing books with people, finding books that I’d forgotten I read, or finding books for my reading list.

For now, I’m updating my LibraryThing in tandem because I feel a certain loyalty to them. But honestly, I’m already starting to wonder how long this is going to last…I may only update it for books I actually own.

I am importing my Library Thing right now. I made it and then I never logged back in. D’oh!

Yay! I’ve found it much much friendlier of a place. LT is good, but in its own way.

I did have to retag/rerate stuff *sigh* But it wasn’t that bad.
