Starting Firefly Cross Stitch Project

One of my nerdy crafting heroines is Amber from Cthulhu Crochet and Cousins. I discovered her through her awesome tiny Cthulhu crochet pattern. I have a bunch of those little guys (see header).

I found an awesome cross stitch pattern for Firefly characters on her site earlier this year and finally got a chance to take a crack at it this weekend. I haven’t done cross stitch in forever. Maybe 10 years. So I had to get some new supplies, though I already had some floss.

The biggest challenge in getting started were the tiny pictures she posted of her patterns — men of Firefly, women of Firefly. They’re great, but tiny.

So in my over-achieving way, I made some larger graph paper & set to work creating larger and more readable versions. I’ll put them in a document and post it once I’m done (maybe a PDF) and send it to Amber as well since it’s her pattern.

Here’s what I’ve got after the first hour (and see all the pretty threads I’ll get to use?), a little bit of Kaylee:

Just started on a little bit of Kaylee

Getting back into it is weird but fun, it’s like riding a bicycle but with spatial reasoning (which I’m pretty good at). I think I should use some of the extra cloth/thread to make an Elder Sign. I’ve got more than enough Cthulhus running around.

So cute. What will you do with it when you’re done? I still have all my x-stitch stuff tho it’s been years since I’ve done it.

About 10 yrs ago I gave away all my knitting stuff. Then 5 yrs after that, knitting became popular again so I had to buy everything over. Not making that same mistake twice.
