One of the biggest surprises I had in the week I spent back home between my mom’s death & the funeral was a set of large boxes which arrived at my parents’ house. They turned out to be a present which a whole group of my friends online had collaborated on. Most of these friends I’d known for 2-3 years, but some I’d only known a handful of months. It was spearheaded by Revanche, whom I’ve known for a comparatively long time online and who is a great person.
I was blown away by the awesomeness of it all.

There were 8 skeins of yarn, 4 of one type and 4 assorted soft yarns.

Three different manga titles (I’m counting Scott Pilgrim as manga because of the style…but I’m not sure) and also a comic (which my sister promptly stole & read & gave back.)

And lots of pocky, which Revanche has been trying to get me to eat and which is, indeed, as delicious as she said it’d be.

I made a hat:

I’ve already thanked all the people who were involved individually, but I wanted to post the pics as well. In a very sad and tired week it was a surprise that not only lifted my spirits a bit but made me feel very cared for. I think it’s wonderful that interactions on the internet aren’t always virtual.

What a wonderful set of gifts!
I’ve seen more kindness and generosity of that kind sprouted from online fandoms and friendships than I think I ever have IRL; proof that the internets can bring wonderful people together!
